How did the restaurant come about?
I met local farmer Suzie Musgrove earlier in the year. We both agreed that Hilton needed a new eating establishment which served fresh, locally sourced food made from scratch. Inspired by the BBC show ‘Secret Restaurants’ presented by Michelle Roux Jnr, Suzie suggested a pop up restaurant in her allotment garden, using her produce and her quirky shed as a venue. How could I refuse? (#crazyorgenius)
How long is the restaurant open for?
We are going to run the restaurant throughout the summer so May until August. We will open Friday and Saturday to begin with and If people like what we do we will open more often. We have already taken a booking for a private function of 18 people midweek so the pop up restaurant is also a great place to celebrate private parties, staff functions, birthdays, baby showers etc.
We would really like to develop the concept and possibly become a more permanent fixture so hopefully the restaurant is a hit with the local community and the foodies of Derbyshire.
How Many People Can Eat at The Pop Up Restaurant?
We can seat a whopping 18 people in one sitting, this is on 7 tables. Please remember you are eating in a SHED, It is compact and bijoux shall we say!! If you want a quiet intimate meal we may not be the right place for you! We want our customers to enjoy the company of their fellow diners and experience fab food with friends old and new.
We do also have the most beautiful allotment garden outside where you can sit and have a pre and post meal drink (Bring your own booze folks!) We can also cater for additional dining outside, weather permitting (Bring your own gazebo folks!).
Is it true that I can bring my own alcohol?
Yes! Whoop, whoop! As we are not a licenced venue yet you can bring your own alcohol. I know, great isn’t it?!! We provide wine glasses, ice buckets and cork screws.
We also sell a selection of National Forest Spring Water and other soft drinks, homemade where possible.
Are There Set Sittings at the Restaurant?
At the moment we are running a normal restaurant booking system so you can select a time. Occasionally we may need to ask you to vacate your table for other diners. We only do this when absolutely necessary and will always give you at least two hours to enjoy your pop up experience.
Do you cater for Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten Free?
Yes of course! We will try to cater for most food preferences and dietary requirements* and we have already created gluten free, vegan, dairy free and even nickle free menus! if you can’t see a suitable dish on the menu then just get in touch. You can even tell us one of your favourite dishes and we will see if we can come up with something similar...or better!
*There may be some rare exceptions simply due to the nature of the pop up restaurant*
Do I have to pay in advance?
Yes, due to the unique nature of the event we have to take payment to secure your booking. The pop up restaurant is a dining experience and in essence you are buying a ticket. This is to ensure people do not miss out and we do not waste that beautiful home grown produce. The cost of the meal is £28 for three courses, payment can be made by bank transfer, paypal or cash at Suzies Farm Shop and Tea Room
Can we bring our Baby ?
You can bring your baby but please do remember we are in a SHED!! We can’t fit in pushchairs unfortunately and we have a toilet with basic facilities only. Please let us know you are bringing your baby and we will select the most suitable table and arrange a high chair too.
Is there Parking
Yes we have parking for around 8 cars, parking is also allowed on the road outside the venue.
Is there Public Transport?
Yes the V1 bus (Burton to Derby) has a bus stop right outside so no need to drink and drive! (I know, it can’t get any better can it!!)
